What is a shared car and who is allowed to use it?
Topic: Naapurin puolesta kyselen

At YH Kodit, we aim to ensure smooth everyday life for every resident. At the same time, we focus on environmentally friendly solutions. That’s why we’ve introduced shared cars for residents—vehicles that are also economical. One of the benefits of shared cars is that you don’t need to worry about maintenance, insurance, or changing tires—you only pay for usage.
“The car is well-equipped; for example, it has cruise control and a reversing camera. It’s really pleasant to use, and I enjoy driving long distances with it.”
– Vesa, YH Homes resident
What can shared cars be used for?
Shared cars offer flexible options for a variety of needs. You can book the car for a quick errand—for instance, picking up a large package from the post office—or for a weekend trip.
“I primarily use the car for trips lasting one to three days. Also, when there are overlapping schedules at home, the shared car has ensured that every family member can get to where they need to go.”
– Vesa, YH Homes resident
Is using a shared car expensive?
Shared car billing is calculated in 15-minute increments. For example, a quick 15-minute errand would cost just €1.50—clearly cheaper than a bus ticket. Pricing is based solely on time used. You can book the car for three hours, but if you only use it for two, you’ll only be charged for the actual usage (some models also include a per-kilometer fee—check the latest rates on Omago’s website).
“I’ll likely give up owning a car altogether since the shared car is affordable, easy to use, and booking it is hassle-free.”
– Vesa, YH Homes resident
Can I bring a pet into the shared car?
Yes—you can take a pet with you in cars marked with a paw symbol.
Where can I find shared cars and how do I book one?
You can find shared cars and their locations on the oma.yhkodit.fi website, where you’ll also see booking instructions. Currently, YH Homes has shared cars in Tampere (Vuores, Epilä, Hatanpää, and Linnainmaa). The car in Hatanpää is a van—perfect for moving! In Turku, shared cars are available in Skanssi and at Helsinginkatu 13.
Try a shared car and experience carefree, eco-friendly driving!
