Reducing Energy Use: Moderate Indoor Temperatures and New HVAC Technology
YH Kodit places energy efficiency at the core of its operations. Efforts to reduce energy consumption include setting moderate indoor temperatures, upgrading heating and ventilation systems (HVAC), and encouraging residents to use less water. Energy efficiency is a key aspect of responsible living, and these practical actions significantly lower the impact of heating and hot water on overall energy consumption.

 Low-Emission Energy Sources Supporting Sustainable Solutions
Improving efficiency is vital, but reducing consumption alone isn’t enough. That’s why YH Kodit has transitioned to low-emission energy sources in building energy systems. All properties previously heated with natural gas or oil have been converted to renewable geothermal heating. Additionally, electricity used by the properties is sourced from renewable energy.

 Carbon-Neutral District Heating – In Partnership with Tampereen Energia
YH Kodit has partnered with Tampereen Energia to provide low-emission district heating. The collaboration includes the use of Tampereen Energia’s "Lähilämpö Carbon Neutral" heating solution, produced entirely from renewable sources like forestry residues from local forests. This renewable form of heating significantly reduces CO₂ emissions. It can decrease emissions by up to 15,400 kg per 100 MWh—equivalent to the annual carbon footprint of about 1.6 Finns.

The first YH Kodit properties using carbon-neutral district heating are located in Tampere on Jankaraitti and Ylämummo.
“Our goal is to gradually expand carbon-neutral heating to other properties as well,” says Property Director Tomi Jokio. This ambition reflects the company’s long-term commitment to promoting low-emission housing.
