Guide to Applying for an Apartment

How to Apply for a Rental Apartment
Browse available apartments:
Start by browsing available rental apartments through YH Kotit’s apartment search. You can add your favorite listings to your favorites, making them easier to find when filling out your application.
Fill out the application:
Once you’ve found apartments you’re interested in, proceed to fill out the application. You’ll be asked to provide personal and contact information, as well as your preferences regarding the apartment. At the end of the application, you can choose whether you’d like to receive offers for similar apartments or only for the ones you selected.
Application attachments:
You don’t need to attach any documents at this stage—they are only required when signing the lease agreement.
Please note the following:
- The apartment you want may already be offered to another applicant, so we recommend applying for multiple apartments.
- Apartments remain listed as available on the website until a lease agreement is signed.
- You’ll be able to view the apartment once you’ve submitted an application and we have an apartment to offer you.
Who Can Apply for a Rental Apartment?
Anyone aged 18 or older who is a Finnish citizen or has a comparable status can apply for a rental apartment. YH Kotit specializes in state-subsidized, non-profit ARA housing, so residents are selected based on housing need. These apartments may also have income and asset limits, which are specified in the apartment listing. Please note that we check the credit history of all applicants.
YH Kodit offers lovely rental apartments in both Tampere and Turku.
Who Can Apply for Senior Housing?
YH Kodit’s senior apartments are specifically designed to meet the needs of older residents. Most senior apartments are intended for residents aged 63 and over.
If you are applying for a senior apartment with specific eligibility criteria (e.g., age 63+, health-related reasons), you must attach the following documents to your application:
- A medical certificate or a statement from a social or healthcare professional indicating the need for senior housing.
- A statement of assets and income (e.g., pension/salary certificate, tax decision and breakdown) as well as the current value of assets and any debts.
- If the applicant(s) own property or other assets, include documents such as a sales agreement, fund or stock portfolio value, etc. Copies of the documents are sufficient.
